Native advertising acceptance or avoidance : the effects of personalization and trust
The growth of native advertising seems to be increasing as rapidly as the concerns about it. Growing ethical concerns may hinder advertisers from employing native advertising freely regardless of its effectiveness. Likewise, despite the many industry studies and findings on native advertising, to date, limited academic research has explored the interplay between perceived ethical concerns and consumer response to native advertising. The purpose of this study was to investigate antecedents and consequences of native advertising avoidance and examine the effects of (1) perceived deceptiveness, (2) media trust, (3) brand trust, and (4) perceived personalization on perceived privacy concerns, ad skepticism, attitude toward the brand, ad avoidance, and purchase intention. Findings from the first study revealed significant three-way interaction effects among perceived deceptiveness, media trust, and brand trust on ad skepticism and attitude toward the brand. These findings are notable because consumers’ low perceived deceptiveness appears to be able to offset either low brand trust or low media trust. As such, identifying that native advertising is indeed advertising can enhance the effectiveness of the advertising message by lowering skepticism. Experiment 2 demonstrated significant two-way interaction effects between perceived personalization and media trust on privacy concerns, ad avoidance, and purchase intention. Specifically, consumers who had high trust in the social media in which the native ad appeared generated lower levels of perceived privacy concerns and lower levels of ad avoidance when they felt that the native advertising was highly personalized. In contrast, consumers who had low trust in the social media in which the native ad appeared reacted oppositely in that they had higher privacy concerns and higher ad avoidance when they perceived the ad as highly customized to their needs and interests. The findings contribute theoretically to our understanding of Psychological Reactance Theory and ad avoidance by demonstrating the moderating role of perceived personalization in responding to native advertising. Additionally, findings from this study provide managerial implications in that personalized advertising can offset weaknesses stemming from low media trust or low brand trust.Advertisin
Encore (Again) tells the story of a young woman haunted by an abortion, which she thinks has never happened to her, and yet keeps hounding her, especially in her dreams. This is the story of her desire, held against the domestication of her body, and through it, she tries to repossess her womb and make the traces of her past appear, beyond the visible.
My essay addresses the « freakish anomalies » of Georges Bataille’s Blue of Noon (Le Bleu du ciel), as Bataille himself qualified his novel in his preface. How to transgress a genre that has no law, no constraint ? Rather than analyzing the freakishness of the narrative or the characters, I have tried to understand how writing was here performed, or tasked, by formless and chance, two concepts that I have borrowed from Bataille and confronted to his fiction

CARNATIONS embodies a first critical reflection on the work of artist Philippe Hamelin. In this series of computer-generated animations, begun in 2012, the exhibition questions the ambiguous relationship between what is real, living and digitally constructed. Textured models of human, animal and organic forms, at times interrupted by geometric shapes or videotaped scenes, make for a strange and eerie world, the viewer’s experience of which takes on an affective quality that is both intimate and distanced from it. In the hazy constellation of categories—human, real, true—it is this paradoxical quality governing existence itself and our compliance with its limits that here become the object of reflection." -- Publisher's website

‘Evidence of an auxin signal pathway, microRNA167-ARF8-GH3, and its response to exogenous auxin in cultured rice cells’
MicroRNA167 (miR167) was shown to cleave auxin responsive factor 8 (ARF8) mRNA in cultured rice cells. MiR167 level was found to be controlled by the presence of auxin in the growth medium. When cells grew in auxin-free medium, miR167 level decreased, resulting in an increase in the level of ARF8 mRNA. Cells growing in the normal growth medium containing auxin showed a reversed trend. It was also shown that expression of OsGH3-2, an rice IAA-conjugating enzyme, was positively regulated by ARF8. Delivery of synthesized miR167 into cells led to decrease of both ARF8 mRNA and OsGH3-2 mRNA. This study provides an evidence in which the exogeneous auxin signal is transduced to OsGH3-2 through miR167 and ARF8 in sequence. This proposed auxin signal transduction pathway, auxin-miR167-ARF8-OsGH3-2, could be, in conjunction with the other microRNA-mediated auxin signals, an important one for responding to exogeneous auxin and for determining the cellular free auxin level which guides appropriate auxin responses
Characteristics of Epilepsy in Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Single Tertiary Center Study
Purpose The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics of epilepsy in cerebral palsy (CP) patients and identify risk factors for epilepsy and drug-resistant epilepsy. Methods CP patients aged 18 years old or younger who visited the pediatric neurology department and/or rehabilitation department of a tertiary care hospital between January 2016 and December 2022 with a minimum follow-up period of 2 years were included. Demographic and clinical data, seizure characteristics, brain imaging, electroencephalography, and genetic evaluation results were reviewed retrospectively. Results Among 268 patients included in this study, 36.9% had epilepsy and 10.8% had drug-resistant epilepsy. Asphyxia (29.3%), hemorrhage, infarction, and brain infection (25.3%) were associated with epilepsy. Epileptic CP patients were more likely to experience neonatal seizures (18.2% vs. 4.1%, P<0.001) and febrile seizures (12.1% vs. 7.1%, P=0.02) than non-epilepsy CP patients. The most common cerebral subtype in patients with epilepsy was spastic quadriplegia (59.6%). Epilepsy patients were more severely impaired in gross motor function, with worse intellectual disability. Patients with macrocephaly or cerebral malformation were more likely to have drug resistance. Valproate (51.7% and 25.7%) and levetiracetam (41.4% and 25.7%) were the two most commonly used antiseizure medications, both in monotherapy and polytherapy. Conclusion A history of asphyxia, febrile seizure, neonatal seizure, spastic quadriplegia, more severely impaired gross motor function, and intellectual disability were found to be risk factors for epilepsy. Further research with prospective data collection to develop a model for predicting seizures or epilepsy in CP patients is needed
Analysis of the Penn Korean Universal Dependency Treebank (PKT-UD): Manual Revision to Build Robust Parsing Model in Korean
In this paper, we first open on important issues regarding the Penn Korean
Universal Treebank (PKT-UD) and address these issues by revising the entire
corpus manually with the aim of producing cleaner UD annotations that are more
faithful to Korean grammar. For compatibility to the rest of UD corpora, we
follow the UDv2 guidelines, and extensively revise the part-of-speech tags and
the dependency relations to reflect morphological features and flexible
word-order aspects in Korean. The original and the revised versions of PKT-UD
are experimented with transformer-based parsing models using biaffine
attention. The parsing model trained on the revised corpus shows a significant
improvement of 3.0% in labeled attachment score over the model trained on the
previous corpus. Our error analysis demonstrates that this revision allows the
parsing model to learn relations more robustly, reducing several critical
errors that used to be made by the previous model.Comment: Accepted by The 16th International Conference on Parsing
